Jungle Bob reporting from Malaysia

Hi everybody! Here's a quick note from Bob, who is in Malaysia, in the deep, dark jungle, for CDNIS' experience week with a group of 28 students and a fellow teacher, Bruce. He is staying 6 nights in total - flying in and out of Kuala Lumpur. We will post some pictures when he gets back! Enjoy!

HI!

Well it has been a pretty intense couple of days- I can truly say I have experienced the jungle to say the least. A quick run down since yesterday:

1. Canopy Walk- We hiked about 2 km. up a mountain in the middle of the jungle heat yesterday- physically challenging to say the least. Once we got to the top we did a canopy walk that was 400 meters off the ground....needless to say my kness were knocking

2. We hiked in the afternoon about a kilometer out after a 20 minute river boat ride and went to a swimming hole- very refreshing...the kids had fun, but in the midst of it, the wind came up and within 5 minutes it was monsoon rains- we all got good and soaked on the way back.

3. Last night Bruce and I took the river taxi across the river and went to the neighbouring village to check it out....very interesting as it is an entirely moslem community- very traditional mosque and friendly people.

4. this morning we hiked to the bat caves in really adverse conditions. The trail was a sea of mud and in really bad shape so we got absolutely covered in mud. Lots of the kids got leeches on them- it doesn't hurt but when they fall off the wound bleeds profusely. We went in the cave and it was intense- belly crawling through crevasses and rivers and thousands of bats everywhere- needless to say there was bat crap everywhere too. We saw snakes, giant frogs, huge roaches and more leeches- kind of intense. It was cool to say I did it but I was spent when we got out of the cave-covered in crap, mud, and soaked to the bone. We hiked back through the mud and went to an amazing aboriginal village- kind of like stepping back in time as we were in a nomadic village with people who live in the jungle- very primitive but etremely cool.

This afternoon we go rafting and then tonight to a night market. Tomorrow back to KL to visit the Petronas Towers, do some shopping and relax.

I miss you guys like crazy- I hope your week is going well and Meaghan I will find a way to contact you. Sarah I hope you are having fun sweetie. You must be dying to start playing bball.

Oh yeah- Bruce and I had rats in our bedroom last night.....just another day in the jungle. One of the girls came back to her chalet and there was a 6 foot long snake wrapped around her door handle....intense.

Love you guys.

Dad
