A Splash in Victoria!

What A Splash! A quick decision to meet together in Victoria for the Symphony Splash and suddenly three gorgeous rooms were occupied at the Scot, and we had claimed our space on the lawns of the Legislature!

BC Day is always the day when the Symphony arrives afloat aboard the barge and moors itself in the Inner Harbour amid kayaks, canoes, zodiacs and other ships. This year, the Splash is dedicated to the Royal Canadian Navy which celebrates its 100th year and the Harbour boasted more than civilian vessels as two large ships, the HMCS Edmonton and HMCS Nanaimo guns-a'the-ready, lent yet another special occasion to the day. The Naden Band performed at 4 and we arrived just as Ken Lavigne and the band were filling the harbour with familiar songs. Mother quickly got as close as she could without a dunking to Monsieur Levigne and the lawns quickly filled with thousands of spectators.

As we awaited the Victoria Symphony, we visited the food vendors and returned to our spot laden with hot fresh pizzas, cookies and drinks for everyone. The weather could not have been better, cool enough that we didn't worry about the heat, yet warm enough to be comfortable under blankets.

The Symphony concert was wonderful and the marine theme collected together a programme of disparate, yet fabulous music, from Russian dances to Popeye to the Titanic, we enjoyed each note! And of course, the Splash ended with the 1812 Overture, and fireworks punctuated by the two naval guns on the walkway by the wax museum and yet others from the naval ships in the harbour.

A wonderful evening, a wonderful day, and we hope this will become yet another beloved family tradition for us all :)
