Just home from a lovely holiday at Spider Lake. Our friends, the Osborns, have a cabin which they rent out to friends. We stayed for three nights and four glorious days. No power boats, so lovely and quiet with kayakers and other paddlers meandering past with a lazy wave. The kiddies were in the water constantly, joined by friends for one day. We saw herons, eagles, crows, chickadees, wrens, otters, deer and assorted sundry swimmers. Shea noticed a "dog" on the raft and it turned out to be two frolicsome otters who cavorted on our raft and then streamed off towards the other side of the lake. Rowan played guitar as we sat around our campfire on the second night. The first night blew in a lively storm which shook the cabin and encouraged me to find candles and lighting instruments just in case. Jen and Meg joined us for our last night of movies and fun. We rescued a green turtle (the blow up kind) which found itself across on our side of the lake after the storm. "Eugene" became fast friends with the kiddies who like swimming, too. Altogether a wonderful holiday - a two-book, two-whole-newspaper holiday!
