High on Ice carvings I

I warned you that I had lots of photos. Notice Daddy's coat(s)--he borrowed 2 of Greg's!

These are the professional carvers. There were teams from Russia, USA, Winnipeg, a couple from BC and a team from Japan. The Japanese carver is the best in the world.

This huge pice was commissioned by the City of Fort St. John so wasn't part of the competition. The ice used was the Baldonnel ice and the carver was the world champion from Japan. He didn't speak English so his friend, the executive chef from the Empress in Victoria, travelled with him. A couple of international (Japanese) students from the college also spent time at the site.

Look--inukshuks and there is Greg, of course. These are amateur carvings.

This inukshuk was designed by the father and son team seen "ironing" the ice so it would stick.
Daddy is cold! This is after church on Saturday night and the temperature had dropped to about -23 and he didn't have a hat!

More to come!
